| Liposuction is not a cure for obesity, patients warned
The number of people undergoing liposuction has risen by 90% in just one year - prompting experts to warn it is not a solution for obesity. More than 100,000 British men and women had cosmetic surgery last year in the everlasting search for the body beautiful. Doctors are talking of a surgery epidemic. With adverts filling magazines and newspapers, cut-price offers and celebrity endorsement suggesting it is more akin to a haircut than risky surgery with occasionally devastating consequences, liposuction and other body-enhancing procedures are becoming commonplace. .
Nip/Tuck Analysis: Will women choose Botox or boob jobs over gold?
RENO, NV (Mineweb.com) --Prudential Equities suggested this week that Botox and breast augmentation may be competing for consumer dollars against gold jewelry. Prudential Medical Device Analyst Larry Biegelsen recently suggested to his colleagues that technological advances in beauty products offer new competition within discretionary income for gold jewelry, much like consumer electronics, prescription drugs and other healthcare. Apparently, his analysis was compelling enough to alarm Prudentials metals analysts, who wrote Tuesday, Simply put, we worry that Botox, cosmetic surgery, skin treatments and other advances rapidly penetrating the third world could displace more jewelry purchases than flat screen TVs, cell phones, PCs, or legal drugs already do.
Cosmetic surgery goes low brow
According to a recent survey, in a cosmetic surgery magazine, women are now opting for lower, rather than more arched eyebrows, as sported by the actress Jennifer Connelly. American plastic surgeons, ticking off their checklists for perfection, say American actress Jennifer Connelly has the best eyebrow shape of the moment. It curves lower over the eye, reaching a peak height two-thirds of the way along. In contrast, the arched eyebrow favoured by Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman is at its highest point in the middle. This gives a somewhat quizzical, wide-eyed look. After years of patients asking them to make their eyebrows higher, they are noticing a profound change in taste. Cosmetic surgeons believe the high eyebrow - at its peak in the Hollywood stars of the 1930s and 40s before its current appearance - could soon disappear forever.
Bush Library will receive facelift
The George Bush Presidential Library Complex is a few months away from getting a major facelift. "The Museum has a lot of outdated technology and needs to be updated", said Brian Blake, public relations specialist for the library. "Therefore, while we plan keeping a lot of the exhibits, we're focusing on making them much more interactive." Some of the plans involve adding new televisions, or in the case of the CIA room, adding a special machine that uses a satellite to zoom in on the person using infrared. Other changes are simple renovations, such as moving objects around the museum to fit new displays. One such display is an actual replica of the Oval Office. There, visitors can get their picture taken sitting in the president's chair. "We hope some of these changes will allow for a larger audience," said Blake, "We hope these changes make the museum more interesting for small children, while maintaining the attention of our older guests." One such exhibit is a digital display of a series of children's books that Barbra Bush had recorded.
